Golden Hill
2022 Cabernet Sauvignon
Mount Veeder
Golden Hill is a southwest-facing block of Cabernet Sauvignon at the upper reaches of our Mount Veeder estate. In 2014, we bottled a single-vineyard expression of this wine, marking the first time Mayacamas had produced a single-vineyard red wine in our long history. Unfortunately, the 2017 wildfires burned through this block – killing the old vines and forcing us to replant. This 2022 Premiere Napa Valley bottling marks the first time we’ve offered a glimpse of the re-born Golden Hill. We are excited to share this wine and hope you enjoy it.
Winemaker, Mayacamas Vineyards
A fifth generation vintner, Braiden has a long lineage of winemaking; his great-great grandfather planted vineyards on the Rutherford Bench. The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard served as a backdrop to his childhood and is still farmed by his family. While studying Environmental Economics at UC Berkeley, Braiden spent summers working in the vineyards, learning under the mentorship of distinguished organic winegrower Phil Coturri, who still works with Braiden at the Mayacamas Vineyard today. Captivated by the entire process, from vine to wine, Braiden pursued winemaking professionally. Braiden, now winemaker, strives to make the highest quality wines while always utilizing sustainable vineyard and winery practices.
