Description

Alta 1695 takes its name from the soaring 1,695-foot elevation of the Mondavi family’s Cold Springs Vineyard on Howell Mountain—a rare, commanding site shaped by altitude, time, and vision. This wine signals a bold new chapter for Charles Krug Winery, one of Napa Valley’s last historic, family-owned estates. Crafted as the inaugural Premiere lot by fourth-generation co-proprietress Angelina Mondavi, it marks a generational milestone and a powerful first. Guided by lifelong connection to the land and global perspective, Alta 1695 embodies place, purpose, and progress—honoring legacy while confidently carrying the Mondavi story into its next era.

Angelina Mondavi

Winemaker, Charles Krug

Winemaker, Angelina Mondavi

Angelina Mondavi, a fourth-generation winemaker, is the only member of the Peter Mondavi Sr. family to pursue the craft professionally. With decades of experience creating award-winning wines, she brings unmatched expertise to her work. As the consulting winemaker at Charles Krug Winery, Angelina continues her family’s legacy of excellence, balancing forward-thinking with a deep respect for the traditions established by Peter Mondavi Sr.

The eldest daughter of Marc and Janice Mondavi, Angelina was raised on the family estate, where she developed a profound appreciation for both the land and the artistry behind winemaking. Growing up, she had a front-row seat to her grandfather’s craftsmanship, watching Peter Mondavi Sr. produce exceptional wines and build a lasting legacy. Her passion for winemaking ignited at an early age—she was helping in the lab by the age of 10. Inspired by her family’s dedication and artistry, she chose to follow in their footsteps, and now, as a consulting winemaker, she leads winemaking at Charles Krug and is proud to continue her family legacy, creating wines meant to be cherished for generations.

Angelina’s path to winemaking was shaped by a solid academic foundation. She earned a degree in chemistry with a business minor from Villanova University, followed by a Master’s in Oenology from the University of Adelaide, laying the groundwork for her future in the industry. She began her career as a lab assistant at Hess Collection before moving to Australia to gain hands-on experience at a winery in the Barossa Valley. With over 35 harvests spanning three continents, Angelina has honed her skills, contributing to multiple 100-point wines and earning a reputation as one of Napa Valley’s top winemakers.
